TOOMER, Jean ESSENTIALS. DEFINITIONS AND APHORISMS
"Private Edition" Chicago 1931 First Edition. Some copies of this book
are numbered, but most seem not to be, and only a very few of the
numbered copies are signed. The unnumbered copies were apparently
remaindered, which accounts for the glut of fine, fresh unnumbered
copies in dustwrapper on the market. This is copy #481 of 1000 SIGNED by
Toomer. Additionally this copy is INSCRIBED by Toomer on the front free
endpaper: "For Mildred C. Green/Jean/Christmas '32/Portage." The
author's second book. His first book, the novel CANE, was the first
book, and one of the greatest books, of the Harlem Renaissance. Quite
scarce to find this title signed and virtually unheard of to find it
inscribed by Toomer. The spine is evenly sunned, with the sunning
extending a little to the top of the rear cover. Near Fine, lacking the
dustwrapper. $4000.00
