Rosenstiehl, M.A. "TRAITE DE LA COULEUR AU POINT DE VUE PHYSIQUE,
PHYSIOLOGIQUE ET ESTHETIQUE COMPRENANT l’EXPOSE DE l’ETAT ACTUEL DE LA
QUESTION DE L’HARMONIE DES COULEURS"

Paris; Dunod: 1934. [2nd ed.]

Originally published in 1913, this is a highly important color theory
book. Rosenstiehl was a Doctor of Sciences, professor of chemistry, a
staff member of the Conservatoire National des Arts et Metiers de Paris, a
Corresponding Member of the Societe Industrielle de Mulhouse, and
affiliated with the Maison Thierry. He had published his first color
theory pamphlet in 1884, and followed it up with this title which,
published at the height of the Cubist Movement, was highly influential
with such key color theorists as Julie Beaudeneau, who was in turn a
source of inspiration for Jacques Villon. Despite its importance then, it
is an uncommon work now, though one does not really preclude the other;
after all- when was color theory ever a best seller? Hardcover. 6.5”x9.5”,
xv + 247 pages, 8 colored plates and 53 text illustrations; publisher’s
coarse-weave tan cloth, light cover wear, a little soil, contents fine. A
very nice copy of an uncommon work. [30598] $250.00

AS ABOVE, Softcover edition. Publisher’s original softcovers, in glassine
wraps. Light wear, a chip or two to the glassine, but essentially a fine
copy of an uncommon work. [30599] $250.00
