King, Moses. "KING'S DREAM OF NEW YORK"

New York; Moses King: 1908.

In the 1890s Moses King began producing viewbooks celebrating New York, a
series of books which culminated in grand publications such as this one,
which contains hundreds of photographs and drawings, most of existing New
York buildings and a few of proposed ones. King loved the city, and
celebrated its grand skyscrapers and other architecture. His books today
provide an unparalleled survey of New York at the turn of the twentieth
century. This, the first edition of his “Dreams” title, also contains what
would become an iconic title page image- New York of the future, with
ever-taller buildings, linked by skywalks, with propeller-powered
dirigibles scurrying back and forth like gigantic air buses.

Hardcover. 10”x14.5”, 96 pages, b/w illustrations; rebound in marbled
boards with a plain red leather spine with raised bands and gilt title;
spine scuffed, boards with some wear; contents with a little wear and
soil. [30314] $250.00
