Greetings Booklovers,

We are pleased to offer:
~
(No. 9089 ) [Navy Department, Division of Naval Intelligence,
Identification and Characteristics Section]. CONFIDENTIAL - ONI 209: A
MANUAL OF MERCHANT SHIPS [COVER TITLE].
[Washington, D.C.]: [Office of the Chief of Naval Operations], [1943]. Stiff
card covers, Quarto, [ii], 473 pages, black & white photographs,
silhouettes. Very good.
Original copy of this very ambitious World War II manual which
provided a system to codify all the world's merchant vessels of 1,000 gross
tons and over which did not have a military status. Photographs and graphic
indices facilitated spot identification. Such manuals were normally
classified as RESTRICTED, but the mass of information on losses and new
construction that could be derived from study of ONI 209 caused it to
receive the higher classification of CONFIDENTIAL. Acco-bound in brown card
covers with title printed on front cover. Cover edges show some shallow
wrinkles and rubs. First and last few leaves have minor foxing. Minor wear
to index tabs at fore edges. $250.00
