Moe Berg’s book – high school or college??

PRINCES OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE UNDER THE REPUBLIC. 
Cambridge: University Press, 1908. Original dark 
blue cloth, 241pp.  First edition, very good, no 
dust jacket.  The author was a Fellow at St. 
John’s College, Cambridge. This book won the Thirlwall Prize, 1906.

             With the ownership rubber-stamp (in 
facsimile of his signature) of Morris (Moe) Berg 
on the title, front pastedown and again on the 
front free endpaper.  Pencil scorings, ticks, 
circlings, asterisks or marginalia on some 63 
pages, but not in the two appendices or 
index.  Berg seems to check chapters or passages 
he will or has read. He circles rubrics and an 
odd word: “Ethnarchy”; writes out a Greek word; 
often highlights foreign words, and certainly 
marks passages related to the Jews.  In addition 
he marks the date and place for the author’s 
Preface, and items in the Table of Contents  and 
in the Introduction.   $250.00
