For Your Consideration.

THE PAGEANT OF PEKING. COMPRISING SIXTY-SIX VANDYCK PHOTOGRAVURES OF
PEKING AND ENVIRONS FROM PHOTOGRAPHS BY DONALD MENNIE. WITH AN
INTRODUCTION BY PUTNAM WEALE...Shanghai: A.S.Watson & Co., 1922. Folio,
in original blue silk decorative covers, with gilt lettering and
ornament on front cover. Third edition. Illustrated with 66 tipped in
photogravures by the Australian photographer Donald Mennie (1899-1941).
The 40-page text introduction is by Putnam Weale, the pseudonym of
English author, journalist, agent, and adventurer Bertram Lenox Simpson.
Simpson, who lead a provocative existence in China, was assassinated in
1930. Meenie's photographs capture an artist's view of what Simpson
calls "A brilliant thousand-year-old tale," of Peking and its environs.
Light foxing to the endpapers, with light rubbing to tips, otherwise a
near fine copy of this wonderful production. $725
