[EXTRACTS] JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE CONGRESS, HELD AT
PHILADELPHIA, SEPTEMBER 5TH, 1774...
J. Almon London 1775 First Edition. CONTAINING THE BILL OF RIGHTS; A
LIST OF GRIEVANCES; OCCASIONAL RESOLVES; THE ASSOCIATION; AN ADDRESS TO
THE PEOPLE OF GREAT BRITAIN; A MEMORIAL TO THE INHABITANTS OF THE
BRITISH AMERICAN COLONIES; AND, AN ADDRESS TO THE INHABITANTS OF THE
PROVINCE OF QUEBEC. PUBLISHED BY THE ORDER OF CONGRESS. TO WHICH IS
ADDED, (BEING NOW FIRST PRINTED BY AUTHORITY) AN AUTHENTIC COPY OF THE
PETITION TO THE KING. Octavo (5" x 8-3/8") in 20th-century blue boards
with a paper spine label: [4], 66, [2] pages. The second of two editions
printed in England of this important document that Howes (E-247) called
"The forerunner of the Declaration of Independence." This publication
supplied the parts of the entire Journals of 1774 not already published
for the British public. In addition to the regular title page, this copy
has the half-title page with the price of one shilling and six pence as
well as a second and different title page which includes nothing after
the "September 5th, 1774" date and which states "Philadelphia Printed"
above the London J. Almon imprint. We have been unable to locate any
other copy with two different title pages. The only defect is a closed
jagged tear to one leaf toward the center of the page with no loss.
