(TRUMAN,  Harry)  DANIELS,  Jonathan.  THE  MAN  OF  INDEPENDENCE.
Philadelphia  &  New  York: J. B. Lippincott  Company  (1950).  Fourth
Impression.  The  first  full  story of the  President's  rise  from a
Missouri  farm  to  the  White   House  written  by  his  presidential
secretary  who helped Truman in his transition from Vice-President  to
President.  His father, Josephus Daniels, as the Secretary of the Navy
under  Woodrow  Wilson, was Franklin D. Roosevelt's first boss in  the
federal  government.  This copy is INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the  former
President  on the half-title page: "To Judge Abraham L.  Marovitz/kind
regards  from/Harry Truman." Truman has also dated this "12/9/60"  and
added  a  note:  "(Read it carefully!)." Marovitz  was  United  States
District  Court  Judge  for  the Northern District  of  Illinois.  His
ownership  stamps  are on the front pastedown and endpaper. Near  Fine
in a Good or better, attractive dustwrapper.                  $1000.00
