SETH, Vikram. MAPPINGS. (Saratoga, CA): (Vikram Seth) (1980).
First Edition. Seth's very scarce first book, self-published and
issued in an edition of only 150 copies, all SIGNED by the author.
This copy of additional interest in that it is INSCRIBED to novelist
Janet Lewis, also wife of Yvor Winters: "Dear Janet Lewis,/I have
been re-reading 'The Trial/of Soren Quist' [a novel by Lewis] and
cannot tell you/how much pleasure and thought/it gives me./Please
accept this with my/thanks and admiration./Vikram Seth." Seth has
gone on record that Lewis is one of his favorite writers, especially
her book THE WIFE OF MARTIN GUERRE, which was made into a film. Two
pages (9/10 and 55/56) have been bound in twice. Not having examined
another copy we do not know if this is an anomaly but expect it is
such. Handled but still Very Good. $2000.00
