Illustrated with a title-page woodcut vignette, 2 copper engraved headpieces and 12
copper engraved folding plates at back (4 neatly reinforced at fore-margin).
Rebound in antique style, in blind tooled 1/2 calf, morocco spine label, over
boards. A wide margined copy, some gnawing at bottom blank fore-corner, text
unaffected. $1,250.00 (trade discount allowed)
“First edition of the first treatise on naval architecture written on a
scientific basis.” Horblit sale, 153. Bouguer (1698-1758) was the first to apply
mathematical principles to shipbuilding in order to calculate displacement and
stability.
