FS: Rare Czech ornithology with 48 chromolithograph plates

Janda, Jiri. Atlas ptactva stredoevropskeho. Se zvlastnim zretelem k druhum
domacim slovem provazi. Praze: I.L. Kober, [1902?] Quarto, pebbled green
cloth cover with stamped gilt titles, decoration, and border. XX+208+(10) pp
with key to plates. 48 plates in chromolithograph, set out on stubs, and
depicting 385 Eastern European birds (presumably birds of the Czech
Republic). Text in Czech. Jiri Janda was a Bohemian birder and
conservationist, the first chairman of The Club of Exotic Bird Keepers (the
first animal-keeping organization in Prague). Janda later became a director
of the zoological garden in Prague. While this book appears not to be a
primary source, but possibly drawn from other publications on Eastern
European birds, it is possibly the first such book to be published in the
Czech Republic. OCLC shows copies located only at Yale, Oxford, and the
State Library of the Czech Republic. The plates are in very good condition
and retain outstanding color. A few have pencil notations in Czech. The
cover has moderate wear at spine ends and corner tips, dusty text block
edges with a few spots on fore edge, and a very slight dip or compression at
center of top cover. $750 ppd (in US: elsewhere at cost) 20% DISCOUNT to
list members.
