Contemporary panelled calf, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, 
rubbed, a bit chipped and some browning, but generally a

An early edition of Bacon's Collected Works, based upon and 
expanding the 1740 edition undertaken by David Mallet, that 
edition possessed by Jefferson, who grouped Bacon with Locke and 
Newton "as the three greatest men who have ever lived".
