Cleveland: Arthur H. Clark Company, 1923. First printing, Original cloth, 
Octavo, 209 pages, black and plates, colored map. Very good, ex library.
      One of the most complete accounts of the Pacific Northwest fur trade 
at its maturity. Work describes an expedition to the Snake River and gives 
excellent information on the geography of the Hudson's Bay Company's 
activities, methods, and extent of its trade. In addition to the journal the 
editors have included a history of the fur trade in the Northwest, a 
biography of John Work, a bibliography of the fur trade, and a map showing 
Work's route. This edition was limited to 1,000 copies printed direct from 
type and the type distributed. HOWES #W675; WHALE #1730; etc. This copy is 
from a private institutional library and bears their faint circular stamp at 
lower fore corner of front free endpaper, half title, and title page. The 
only other markings are the remnants of a catalogue number in white at heel 
of spine. Bound in dark blue ribbed cloth over boards with spine titled in 
gilt, tissue-guarded frontispiece photograph of Work, top edge gilt. Fore 
and bottom edges of textblock left rough-trimmed, many leaves unopened.
