We offer for Sale:

Baker, Marcus. Clark, John H. THE NORTHWEST BOUNDARY OF TEXAS. UNITED
STATES GEOLOGICAL SURVEY NO. 194. SERIES F, GEOGRAPHY 30. Washington,
D. C.: Government Printing Office, 1902. 50 pp., [3] + map. Illus.
with a 26.5 X 39.5 inch folding map and 5 figures. 8vo. Paper
wrappers. Wheat 1022. First edition.

Contains John H. Clark's important 'Map of the United States and
Texas Boundary Line and Adjacent Territory Determined and Surveyed in
1857-8-9-60.' Baker discusses the history of the Texas surveys,
beginning with Jones and Brown (1859), Clark (1859-60), Johnston
(1857), Macomb (1859), Darling' (1868), Chaffee and Major (1869 and
1872), Major (1874), Chaney (1881), Mabry (1882-85), Taylor and Fuss
(1883), Pritchett (1892), and Preston (1900). Clark completed the map
in 1860 but not all the work as the Civil War intervened; the final
report was not published until 1882 in Senate Ex. Doc No. 70., but
without the large map which was published for the first time in this
report by Marcus Baker in 1902. Lacking the wrappers, minor spotting
to series title leaf, otherwise contents very good or better; map is
fine, crisp, without tears or extraneous creases, and as issued. A
wonderful copy. [30989] $175.00
