Buckland, Rev. William. Geology and Mineralogy Considered With Reference to
Natural Theology. In two volumes. Philadelphia: Carey, Lea and Blanchard,
1837. First American Edition. Octavo. xv, [blank], [13], 14-443pp; vii,
[blank], [1], 2-131pp + plates. Index. Volume two contains 87 plates
(several folding) with explanations of each, and the large folding plate in
volume two, hand-colored, depicting the "Ideal Section of a Portion of the
Earth's Crust, intended to show the order of deposition of the stratified
rocks, with their relation to the un-stratified rocks" composed by Thomas
Webster. Original plum cloth faded to tan around edges and on spines. Paper
spine label moderately rubbed away from volume one and missing form volume
two. Modest foxing to preliminary and terminal leaves, but a sound, Very
Good set of this valuable work, drawn largely from the author's personal
observations in the United Kingdom, Europe, and the Alps. Originally
published in 1836, it appeared as "Treatise VI" in the series of
"Bridgewater Treatises on the Power, Wisdom and Goodness of God as
Manifested in the Creation". Hardcover. Image available upon request (27583)
