Greetings Booklovers,

We are pleased to offer:
~
(No. 9600 ) Sawyer, Frederick L. SONS OF GUNBOATS.
Annapolis: United States Naval Institute, (1946). First printing, Original
cloth, Duodecimo, xii, 153 pages, black and white photographs, maps. Near
Fine.
Commander Sawyer's recollections of the unique and bizarre operations
of 15 small gunboats in the Philippine insurrection following the Spanish
American War. The boats had been built by the Spanish to control Philippine
waters and were taken into the U.S. Navy under the treaty that ended the war
with Spain. The American captains of these boats whimsically styled
themselves "The Ancient and Honorable Sons of Gunboats," and even struck a
medal designed by marine artist Henry Reuterdahl. Sawyer commanded the USS
Panay. Bound in dark blue cloth over boards with spine and upper board
titled in gilt, endpaper maps. Slight extremity rubs. $100.00
