[FRANKLIN, Benjamin] AN HISTORICAL REVIEW OF THE CONSTITUTION AND
GOVERNMENT OF PENNSYLVANIA, FROM ITS ORIGIN SO FAR AS REGARDS THE
SEVERAL POINTS OF CONTROVERSY, WHICH HAVE, FROM TIME TO TIME, ARISEN
BETWEEN THE SEVERAL GOVERNORS OF THAT PROVINCE, AND THEIR SEVERAL
ASSEMBLIES.
R. Griffiths London 1759 First Edition. Octavo (4-3/4" x 8") bound in
contemporary calf with gilt rules; viii, [xviii], 444 pages. Its
authorship long attributed to Benjamin Franklin (Thomas Jefferson wrote
"by Doctor Franklin" on the title page of his copy), many scholars now
think it to have been written by his co-agent in London, Richard
Jackson, with Franklin's advice, but there is no conclusive evidence
either way. Paul Leicester Ford refers to it as item 253 in his
Franklin Bibliography. Howes P-204; Sabin 25512. Old, small ink
identification number on the front pastedown. Light wear to the
leather, some chipping to the head of the spine; covers secure. Light
browning throughout. Very Good or better. $1000.00
