The most famous literary journal in Russia's golden age of
periodicals, the Moscow Telegraph was started in 1825 by Nikolai
Polevoi (1796-1846). It was an instant success and became one of the
brightest voices of Russian romanticism and of modern thinking,
providing unprecedented coverage of Western scientific, economic,
philosophical, and political ideas and inventions. But as an
outsider to the intellectual scene in Moscow, Polenvoi, even with his
favorable review of Pushkin's Eugene Onegin, could not win over the
author or the literary establishment. The journal was shut in 1835 by
order of the Czar.
Details follow:
1. Polevoi, Nikolai Alekseevich, ed. Pushkin, Aleksandr Sergeevich.
