Greetings Booklovers,
We are pleased to offer both definitive references to the known photographs
of the Lincolns (interestingly, there is not a single photograph of them
together):
~
(No. 7901 ) Hamilton, Charles and Lloyd Ostendorf. LINCOLN IN PHOTOGRAPHS:
AN ALBUM OF EVERY KNOWN POSE (SIGNED).
dayton, OH: Morningside, 1985. Reprint, Full cloth, Quarto, x, 421 pages,
Black & White photographs. Very good in good dust jackets, Jacket in Mylar
protector.
INSCRIBED and SIGNED by Ostendorf on title page. Contains every known
photograph of Lincoln at the time of publication, some of which appeared
herein for the first time. Several are reproduced for the first time from
their original glass collodion plates, unretouched and uncropped. This
volume represents a valuable update to the pioneering works of Meserve,
adding several images and correcting information about others. It also stays
much closer to photography than did Lorant's pictorial biography of Lincoln.
In short, it presents Lincoln as the camera saw him, and carefully
catalogues and describes each image in context. Bound in tan cloth over
boards with gilt title and rule on a dark brown oval title block on spine.
Jacket has a few short closed edge tears and associated creases. $200.00

Hamilton used in their definitive work on the photographs of Abraham
Lincoln. Each image herein is accompanied by the relevant information known
about it, and is given a unique number. Bound in pictorial printed cloth
over boards. Light rubs at corner tips and at upper joint near head of
spine. A few scattered spots of foxing to textblock edges, light soil to
white lower board. No prior ownership marks. $150.00
