WILLIAMS, William Carlos. THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF WILLIAM CARLOS
WILLIAMS. New York: Random House (1951). Second Printing.
Incredible copy with what amounts, in the form of an
INSCRIPTION, to an autograph letter expressing his personal
philosophy regarding words. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the poet on the
front endpaper in his clear, pre-stroke hand for Katherine Davis:
"--as much as I have used/words and thought of them/and their
contours and/the stresses we put upon/them I can't find a
single/reference to them, a single/major reference to them in my
poems as/objects worthy of major/consideration -- and yet I/think of
them always. I suppose/they are so much part of my/thought, so close
to me, that/I can't get far enough away/from them to see
them./William Carlos Williams/5-17-52." Wallace A35. Owner's name on
front pastedown under the dustwrapper flap. Light edgewear to
dustwrapper. Near Fine in Very Good or better dustwrapper. Truly
exceptional. $7500.00
