HARWOOD, [SIR] B[USICK].  A SYSTEM OF COMPARATIVE ANATOMY AND 
PHYSIOLOGY.  VOL. I [all published.]  Cambridge: Printed by J. 
Burges, Printer to the University; & sold by W. H. Lunn . . . [et 
al], 1796.  First edition, complete with 15 plates & [2], 72 pages 
(with the  exception of a half-title.)  Foxing on some 
plates.  Quarto, approx. 11 X 9 inches, in a nice modern binding of 
cloth-backed marbled boards with new label on front cover. (Leader's 
"History of the University of Cambridge" calls Harwood "the most 
famous anatomist in 18th Century Cambridge . . . his lectures 
ostensibly on anatomy also included much physiology & pathology, with 
incursions into materia medica and forensic medicine, too. In his 
lectures he referred to the latest discoveries by scientists."  He 
also carried out experiments on blood transfusions.  This only volume 
published of a projected series "dealt with the olfactory organs with 
erudition and perceptiveness.") Seldom seen; apparently only one copy 
currently offered in the trade, (for $9500.00)
