Pethahiah, of Regensburg. Carmoly, [Eliakim], trans. Societe
Asiatique. "TOUR DU MONDE, OU VOYAGES DU RABBIN PETHACHIA DE
RATISBONNE, DANS LE XII SIECLE, TRADUIT DE L'HEBREU PAR M. CARMOLY,"
IN NOUVEAU JOURNAL ASIATIQUE OU RECUEIL DE MEMOIRES, NO.46, OCTOBRE
1831 [AND] NO. 47, NOVEMBRE 1831. Paris: Dondey-Dupre / Societe
Asiatique / Imprimerie Royale, 1831. 8vo. Stitched paper wrappers.
Cowley: Hebr. Books Bodleian Lib. p. 525. First edition.

Pethahiah of Regensburg (b. Jacob Ha-Laban) was a later 12th century
Jewish traveler born in Prague, who voyaged from Ratisbon
(Regensburg) to the East through Poland, southern Russia, Crimea,
Armenia, Persia, Assyria, Syria, Palestine, and Greece. His notes
were gathered by his friend Judah b. Samuel he-H_asid, and first
published in Prague in 1595; Wagenseill did a Latin translation in
1687. This edition by Carmoly, in Hebrew and French (pp.  257-307;
353-413) was only the third; an English version would appear in 1856
by A. Benish. OCLC shows only seven copies. An elusive piece.

(Other articles include the final part of Memoire sur quelque
particularites de la religion, musulmane dans l'Inde, d'apres les
ouvrages hindoustani, by M. Garcin de Tassy; and Seconde Lettre au
Redacteur du Nouveau Journal asiatique, by M. Klaproth). Very good
unopened (uncut) copies, wrappers lightly chipped. [31856]
$500.00
