(No. 10208 )  Hart, Charles Henry (1847-1918). CATALOGUE OF THE ENGRAVED PORTRAITS OF WASHINGTON.
New York: Grolier Club, 1903. Limited edition, Quarter vellum, Folio, xxvi, 406 pages, black and white plates. Near fine.
      Comprehensive survey of the engraved likenesses of George Washington, which took five years to complete. Many are reproduced in full page facsimile. The frontispiece is a mezzotint engraved specially for this volume by S. Arlent Edwards after an original oil painting from 1798 or 1799, thus immediately creating an engraving not described in the catalogue! Published by the Grolier Club in an edition of only 425 copies. HOWES #H257. Bound in slate blue paper over boards with vellum spine and corner tips, gilt-stamped spine and boards, tissue-guarded frontispiece and plates, deckle fore and bottom edges. Binding shows mild rubs and shallow bumps at extremities, slight soil to spine.    $750.00

(No. 10209 )  Morgan, John Hill and Mantle Fielding. THE LIFE PORTRAITS OF WASHINGTON AND THEIR REPLICAS (SIGNED).
Philadelphia: Printed for the Subscribers, (1931). Limited edition, Full leather, Folio, xxiv, 432 pages, black and white plates. very good in a good dust jacket, slipcased.
      An ambitious attempt to catalogue the work of the 27 painters and sculptors for whom George Washington sat during his lifetime. Illustrated with numerous full page tissue-guarded plates reproducing these likenesses. Many works by Gilbert Stuart, Charles Willson Peale, Jean Antoine Houdon, John Ramage, James Sharples, and the like. Also includes a section on fictitious portraits, where the artist is unknown, the work is a composite, etc. This is copy is #95 of the special edition of only 100, extra illustrated specially bound in gilt-stamped red morocco, numbered and SIGNED by both authors. Chipping at head and heel of spine, shallow bump at lower fore corner of upper board. Jacket has a 1" triangular chip at head of spine, shallow chipping along heel of spine. Slipcase bound in red cloth shows some wear, slightly split along one short seam.    $1000.00
