A very scarce title, no copies apparently available at any institution 
world-wide (including specialist librairies). Not in G&M. This was 
probably a book issued to members of the medical profession, as the 
chapter headings indicate the contents deal with topics which would not 
have been openly discussed at the beginning of the last century (e.g. 
"Masturbation" and "Incomplete or Delayed Intercourse"). The Alkaloidal 
Clinic was acquired by Dr. Wallace C. Abbott in 1894, when he became 
editor of their journal, /The Alkaloidal Clinic /(later renamed and 
still in publications today, as the /American Journal of Clinical 
Medicine/). Wallace, a practicing physician and drug store proprietor 
founded the Abbott Alkaloidal Company which eventually became Abbott 
Laboratories, and which now has a world-wide presence. It developed many 
of the common drugs in use today.

Condition of the book: the rear board has been bent at the bottom left 
and shows a marked crease as a result. The boards are generally rubbed 
at the extremities. The head and tail of the spine are a bit pulled. The 
front endpapers are split at the gutter, and there is consequential 
weakening of the binding, but nothing is loose. There is a small printed 
label affixed to the top left of the inside of the front board which 
reads: "Library of Dr. E. E. Cowdrick Enid Okla (name and address 
hand-written) From The Clinic Publishing Company, Chicago". The contents 
have a bit of marginal age-toning, and the odd light smudge, but are 
otherwise clean and free of former owner's markings. A fair, to good, 
copy of a very scarce publication.
