KENNEDY, Jacqueline (Jackie). SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH OF JOHN F. KENNEDY,
JR., AS A TODDLER INSCRIBED TO THE DOCTOR WHO DELIVERED HIM.
Wonderful image (9-1/4" x 7-1/2") matted and framed to an overall
size of 14-1/2" x 12-1/2" of toddler John John sitting on the grass
playing with a puppy, looking straight at the camera. Poignantly
INSCRIBED and SIGNED by Jacqueline Kennedy to her obstetrician, John
Walsh, who delivered John, Jr. born on 25 November 1960, 17 days
after his father was elected president, as well as Caroline and
Patrick, the Kennedy child who died after only 39 hours of life: "For
John W. Walsh--/thank you for John/Jacqueline Kennedy." Walsh was
also present at one of the saddest times in Jackie Kennedy's life,
giving her a tranquilizer in the hospital while her husband's body
was undergoing a post-assassination autopsy. The puppy in the
photograph was the product of the very first meeting between Kennedy
and Premier Nikita Khrushchev of the Soviet Union in Vienna in June
1961 to discuss primarily the German question, obviously not resolved
as the Berlin Wall was built in August 1961. Both countries had
recently launched their first manned space flights, Russia beating
the U.S. by a month, and the Bay of Pigs incident had occurred in the
spring of 1961. At a formal dinner during this meeting, seated beside
Khrushchev, Mrs. Kennedy interrupted him saying, "Please don't bore
me with statistics." He laughed, pulled his chair closer, and
promised to send her a puppy from the dog the Soviets had just
launched into space. This is the puppy, Pushinka. Superb Kennedy
item. Colors bleached by the sun, but writing dark and bold. Near
Fine $7500.00
