SIR THOMAS LIPTON

THOMAS LIPTON. Typed letter signed. (Tls.) Sandy Hook. September 5th,  
1901.  One page on his Steam Yacht "Erin" stationary to C. F. Mathison  
of the New York Morning Telegraph newspaper, informing him that he is  
unable to make a decision concerning a request. It appears the matter  
does concern yacht racing. The piece measures approx. 8" x 5". Very  
good.  $175.00
Sir Thomas Johnstone Lipton Bt KCVO (10 May 1848 in Glasgow – 2  
October 1931 in London) was a Scotsman of Ulster-Scots parentage who  
was a self-made man, merchant, and yachtsman. He created the famous  
Lipton tea brand and was the most persistent challenger in the history  
of the America's Cup.
