Jerphanion, Guillaume de, S.J. "Le Calice d’Antioche. Les Theories de Dr.
Eisen et la Date Probable du Calice"

Rome; Pont. Institutum Orientalium Studiorum: 1926.

An early scholarly inquiry into the date assigned to the famous Chalice of
Antioche by one of its leading chroniclers, Dr. Gustavus Eisen. In 1923
Eisen had published his deluxe, mammoth 2-volume study of the Chalice, in
which he assigned a date in the First Century A.D. to it. Few doubted
Eisen’s credentials, but his dating was suspected to be a wee bit
optimistic by some, including Fr. Jerphanion, who dates it to the 4-6th
centuries, which roughly corresponds to today’s accepted date. Published
as Vol.VII, No.27 (August-September, 1926) of the Orientalia Christiana
series.

Softcover. 6.5”x9.5”, 175 pages with 50 line illustrations, plus 24 b/w
plates; light soil. [31005] $85.00
