ROOSEVELT, Theodore [Jr.]. COLONIAL POLICIES OF THE UNITED STATES.
Garden City: Doubleday, Doran 1937. First Edition. INSCRIBED and
SIGNED on the front free endpaper by the author, son of the former
president: "To John Wheeler-Bennett/a great historian/from his
friend/a mere colonial/administrator/Theodore Roosevelt/Dec.'37."
Wheeler-Bennett, historian and authority on international affairs,

writing the official biography of King George VI. Roosevelt, though
never achieving the fame of his father, was a military hero. Despite
a heart condition and arthritis that forced him to use a cane, he was
the only American General to land on the beaches of Normandy on
D-Day. He died of a heart attack a month later and is buried at the
American cemetery in Normandy next to his brother, Quentin. For his
leadership in the assault on Utah Beach, Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. was
awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. General George S. Patton
said that Roosevelt was "the bravest soldier I ever knew." He was
portrayed by Henry Fonda in the epic film of the invasion THE LONGEST
DAY. Near Fine, lacking the dustwrapper, with a fine inscription.
                                                                $500.00
