Issued as a volume in The Contemporary Science 
Series edited by Havelock Ellis. Mild browning to 
endpapers, minute wear and some mild rubbing to 
the cloth; a very good copy, sound and 
attractive. ¶ The first edition in English of Das 
Keimplasma - eine Theorie der Vererbung (Jena, 
1882). August Weismann [1834-1914], German 
biologist, ranked as the second most notable 
evolutionary theorist of the 19th century, after 
Charles Darwin. Weismann's theory of a 
"germ-plasm", a hereditary substance which passed 
from generation to generation, are here first 
presented. His theories have evolved into modern 
theories on genetics and DNA. Garrison and Morton 368 (German edition).
