in Early Indian Dyed Cotton Textiles"  Washington; The Textile Museum:
1982.  Published in conjunction with a major exhibition at the Textile
Museum, this splendidly illustrated book explores the history and
techniques of the masterful dyers of cotton textiles in India, with
examples ranging back to the 15th century. The text explores the dyers
trade and craft, and the export of dyed cottons to both the West and the
East.  Softcover. 9”x12”, 207 pages, filled with color and black & white
illustrations. Covers a bit rubbed along the spine, otherwise in nice,

N. Potter: 1984.  For the past 150 years the Indonesian island of Java,
sitting in the middle of the East-West trade routes, has produced the
fabled and beautiful batik cloth. Batik- a cloth of intricate patterns
built up with the was-resist process, can take up to a year to complete.
The author, one of the world’s leading authorities on batik, “takes the
reader on a spellbinding tour of the island and the art, displaying
examples of the finest antique and contemporary batik from 30 museums and
