FORMED  UPON PRINCIPLES OF ECONOMY: AND ADAPTED TO THE USE OF  PRIVATE
FAMILIES.  London:  John  Murray 1806. Second  Edition.  Small  octavo
(3-3/4"  x  6-1/8") bound in recent calf-backed marbled boards  with a
gilt-stamped  black morocco spine label; [xxii], lvii, 486 pages, with
engraved  frontispiece and nine engraved plates. The First Edition  of
1806  had  only  290 pages; this Second Edition, while  not  quite  as
scarce,    is    considerably  enlarged   and   improved   with   more
illustrations.  Bitting, p. 410 (citing the earliest edition as  1810);
Cagle  971  (the Third Edition, also 1807, but with fewer pages);  The
Dictionary  of  National Biography: "the earliest manual of  household
management  with any pretensions to completeness." Manuscript  recipes
on  the  rectos of the frontispiece and the rear endpaper.  Occasional
and  moderate  foxing  and  staining. Very  Good  copy  in  attractive
