Louisville [KY]: B. F. Avery and Sons, 1885-1887 iv, 772; [iii], 776 
pp. Illus. with 42 portraits, 13 maps, and numerous plates, 
engravings, and in-text drawings. 8vo. Three quarter brown ribbed 
morocco over pebbled boards, raised bands, five compartments ruled in 
gilt, marbled endpapers (hardback). First edition.

Published under the auspices of the Southern Historical Association 
of Louisville, Ky. which had begun publication of its Papers in 1876, 
the Southern Bivouac was a further effort to carry the Confederate 
message and keep the victorious North from rewriting history. It 
contained "papers of historic value read before the Association, 
short stories of the [Civil] War, sketches of soldiers distinguished 
in battle, poetry, notices of individual heroism on either side, and 
a select miscellany of other articles." The New Series lasted two 
years. Gift to the Commandery from George W. Farnham (who was 
Captain, 10th Calvary, Michigan, discharged Nov. 11, 1865).

Front hinge of one volume just starting else very good copies with 
the bookplate of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United 
States, Commandery of the State of Illinois on front pastedown, shelf 
sticker on foot of backstrip, their stamp on title page, extremities

U.S. funds on a U.S. bank. New York residents please add appropriate 
sales tax or forward a tax id number. Libraries and Institutions can 
be billed. Trade allowance. Postage for Domestic orders is $4.00 for 
the first book and $1.50 for each additional volume. Books are 
normally shipped Media Mail. For international orders, postage is 
calculated individually. All books may be returned in original 
condition for any reason within two weeks with prior notification.
