[ROOSEVELT, Eleanor] MEYER, Agnes E. OUT OF THESE ROOTS. THE
AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF AN AMERICAN WOMAN. Boston: Little, Brown (1953).
First Edition. Autobiography by this journalist, close friend of
Thomas Mann, who often found herself at odds with the Roosevelt
administration. SIGNED by the author and interestingly by Eleanor
Roosevelt on the front endpaper. About Mrs. Roosevelt, Meyer says in
this book: "We were political enemies for the time being.... The
thing that even Mrs. Roosevelt's most hostile critics cannot take
away from her, is her womanly dignity, that quality of self-control
which in more civilized days entitled a woman to be called a lady....
There is no woman whose advice I value more than that of Mrs.
Roosevelt." Slight smudge to the very end of Roosevelt's signature.
Near Fine in a close to Very Good dustwrapper. $750.00
