ff.lxxviii. Black letter, double column text. Illustrated with 39 large (full 
page) woodcuts (3 repeats) and 1 small one. Modern vellum, spine with 5 raised 
bands. Title leaf a bit soiled. The first 2 woodcuts have been hand-colored in a 
somewhat pastel appearance (using orange, green & yellow). Some light 
marginal stains to a few leaves, and the final leaf with a few small wormholes just 
into the outer margin of a woodcut. One leaf (K1 verso) with 28 lines of early 
mss. Notes. Overall a very nice, clean copy with good impressions of the 
woodcuts.     $12,500.00 (trade discount allowed)
This is the second edition (the first is 1507) of an important early woodcut 
book, the first book to be illustrated by H. L. Schaeufelein (1480 to circa 
1540). Thirty of the large Passion subjects are by Schaeufelein. Other cuts are 
by Hans Baldung Grien and Wolf Taut. Scarce, only 3 copies recorded in the 
auction records (ABPC) in 30 years, the last in 2000 realized 11,000 pounds (an
