California in this early period, Brazilian women, taverns of Pennsylvania, 
steamboats, and more. Perhaps of most interest are the comments regarding 
slavery. Illustrated with several hand-colored plates and a fold-out 
frontispiece map. Collated complete. Fully indexed. Professionally rebound 
in marbled paper over boards with blue cloth spine and fore corners, spine 
title in gilt. New endpapers. Interior textblock shows occasional foxing or 
finger soil.
