Sixty-Second Congress, Second Session, Pursuant To. S. Res. 283. Directing
the Committee On Commerce To Investigate The Causes Leading To The Wreck Of
The White Star Liner Titanic.
Document no. 726, published 1912, 1,163 pages, with three folded maps.
The United States investigation began on April 19, 1912, just 4 days after
this disaster at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.
A total of 82 witnesses testified about ice warnings that were ignored,
the inadequate number of lifeboats, the ship's speed, the failure of nearby
ships to respond to the Titanic's distress calls, and the treatment of
passengers of different classes. The hearings concluded on May 28, 1912,
when Senator Smith visited the Titanic's sister ship, Olympic, at port in
New York, to interview some of its crew.
These softcover documents have been bound together into a ¾ red leather
hardcover, with marbled endpapers and edges. Lettering is bright on the
spine and titled as LOSS THE STEAMSHIP TITANIC. Report And Hearings U.S.
Senate 1912. The name Molly Griffin is stamped on the lower spine edge. On
the blank end paper the following inscription is present, dated May 1st,
1915. With best wishes to our dearest friend Mollie from Julia & Tom
Farrell. There was a Titanic passenger James Farrell who embarked from
Queenstown.
