CARTER, Lin [Linwood Vrooman]. MARS, THE STORY OF
A CIVILIZATION. TYPED MANUSCRIPT (TMs). Original
typed manuscript, on the rectos of 15 sheets of
plain 8 ½ x 11 –inch paper. Circa 1950 (or
earlier). Illustrated by the author with five
full-page drawings in pen: two full-page maps of
Mars (Western and Eastern Hemispheres), a
depiction of a Martian male, a depiction of a
Martian female, and a page depicting the Martian
Alphabet. The story of life on Mars, written
from the point of view of Earth settlers in the
year 2297 AD: Geography, History, Zoology and
Botany, Science, Religion, Anatomy, Legend,
Satellites and Vocabulary. Populated as early as
117,300 BC, the Martians had over 1300 World
Emperors. Interplanetary travel was introduced in
9870 BC. Vast wars caused the civilization to
decline until 2123, when the first earth
explorers landed. At its height, the Martians had
discovered faster-than light interplanetary
travel, synthetic life, robotics, “unbelievably
destructive weapons”, the transmutation of
elements
Of interest is the author’s attempt to
create a Martian language, complete with a
hand-drawn alphabet. Obviously a juvenile work,
but with its own merits. Enclosed in the original
“Accupress” binder. Very good clean condition overall. $525.00

Terms: as usual.
