Offering: Three H.P. Lovecraft items.

Lovecraft, H.P. [Howard Phillips]. THE FESTIVAL. TYPED MANUSCRIPT
(TMs). Original typed manuscript, carbon copy, on the rectos of 10
sheets of plain 8 1/2 x 11-inch paper. Circa 1923. Approximately
3,000 words, double-spaced. "H. P. Lovecraft, / 598 Angell St, /
Providence, R. I." typed at the upper left corner of the first sheet,
the original street address overwritten to "66 College" in
Lovecraft's hand (May 1933 or after). Circulating copy with his
penciled notation "please return" below the address on the first
leaf. The manuscript has several minor corrections and additions in
Lovecraft's hand which were incorporated into the final published
version (Weird Tales, January, 1925). It was Lovecraft's custom to
circulate copies of recently completed stories among his friends for
their comments, and presumably this manuscript made the rounds in
this manner. The Festival is an early tale in the "Cthulhu Mythos",
notable as the first story in which reference is made to the
fictional town of Arkham, Massachussetts, as well as being the first
tale to give a lengthy quote from The Necronomicon and to tell us
something of its history. The manuscript is typed on cheap pulp
paper stock which is frayed at edges, quite age-darkened, and
delicate at the folds, several leaves with tape repairs to versos.
Fair to good condition. Provenance: Barlow / Derleth Papers. $4,750.00
Offers considered.

Lovecraft, H.P. [Howard Phillips]. CHRISTMAS CARD, SIGNED "HPL" [IN
MONOGRAM] AND DATED 1934 IN ROMAN NUMERALS BY LOVECRAFT. Stiff card,
6 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches, printed on recto only, four color printing,
probably chromolithography. With envelope addressed in Lovecraft's
hand to Robert H. Barlow, postmarked 17 December 1934. The card
illustrates a nineteenth-century New England winter scene. The card
was printed in duotone (black and gold) and then hand-tinted. Fine.
Provenance: The Grill / Binkin collection, item 523. $850.00
Offers considered.
