[Rarebooks] FS: W.M. Rossetti's copy of Wordsworth's PETER BELL, 1819

One of many fine items that will appear in our new internet catalogue on 
our website in a few days consisting of 19th Century British Literature. 
  Included will be letters, manuscripts, association copies, and signed 
books by Byron, Carlyle, Coleridge, De Quincey, Ruskin, Shelley, 
Thackeray, Wordsworth, and others, as well as first editions by the 
above and many others.

  WORDSWORTH,  William  [ROSSETTI, William Michael].  PETER  BELL, A
TALE  IN VERSE. London: Strahan and Spottiswoode 1819. Second Edition.
Bound  in  contemporary  plain brown wraps, complete  with  half-title
page,  engraved  frontispiece  by  J. C. Bromley, and  four  pages  of
terminal  ads.  William  Michael  Rossetti's  copy  INSCRIBED  on  the
half-title  page:  "To/WM Rossetti/from/J. Deffett Francis"  with  the
date  1876 added in another hand. Also, in Rossetti's hand SIGNED with
his   initials  on  the  first   blank:  "Written  by  John   Hamilton
Reynolds--/In  Shelley's Peter Bell 3, this counts as/being Peter Bell
1./W.M.R./1905."  John  Deffett Francis was an artist, collector,  and
critic.  Laid in is an old bookseller's description with an added  ink
note  in  an unknown hand: "from Messrs. H. Sotheran & Co.'s  list  of
books/from  the  library of the late Willm  Michael  Rossetti/November
1921."  The  front  wrap,  which is cleanly  detached,  has  in  large
lettering  the  title,  author, and date of publication,  possibly  in
Rossetti's hand. Near Fine                                    $2000.00
