account of his life"

By Lawrence Park. Published in New York by William Edwin Rudge in 1926.

One of the most imposing biographies of an early American artist ever
written, the first two volumes are devoted to a biography of Stuart by
John Hill Morgan, a detailed descriptive lists of his portraits, including
a separate list of portraits of George Washington. The last two volumes
are completely devoted to 606 black & white plates illustrating Stuart’s
portraits. Many of Park’s notes and correspondence with owners of Stuart
portraits are now in the Joseph Downs Collection at Winterthur. “A major
and monumental work” (Karpel). Karpel H498.

4 volumes. Hardcover. 9.5”x13”, 982 pages, with 8 black & white
illustrations, 4 gravure frontispieces with tissue guards, and 606
full-page black & white plates. A few light cover scuffs, otherwise an
exceptionally clean and fine set.    $450.00
