ROOSEVELT, Theodore (Teddy ROOSEVELT). THE WILDERNESS HUNTER. New
York: The Review of Reviews Co. 1910. Reprint. Original brown cloth
with a portrait and signature of Roosevelt printed in brown on the
front cover; iv, 296 pages; illustrated with a frontispiece
photograph of Roosevelt standing before a giant redwood. The Homeward
Bound Edition, a condensed version of the original book that first
appeared in 1893. This copy is SIGNED by the author on the front free
endpaper: "with the good wishes of/Theodore Roosevelt/Feb 25th 1913."
Below that in an unknown hand is written "won at N.Y. State
Shoot/Buffalo, June 11, 1913" with the winner's signature. Tipped to
the rear pastedown is the official list of prizes for the competition
with this book listed. After the first World War, the government
began sponsoring shooting competitions around the country with free
ammunition provided and prizes given as incentives. The goal was to
ensure that as many men as possible would be proficient in handling
guns to prepare for future wars. About Fine $4000.00
