      A fine collection of historical articles on the American presidents, 
their families, and their administrations to 1898, written for this book by 
noted historians of the day. Includes several facsimiles of presidential 
letters. The 24 steel engraved portraits have facsimile signatures and are 
protected by tissue guards and remain very clean and bright. This handsome 
book would make a great gift. Indeed, Monica Lewinsky gave a copy much like 
this one to President Clinton as one of many gifts during their relationship 
that led to his impeachment (see Washington Post, Sunday, September 13, 
1998; page A32). Bound in marbled paper over boards with leather spine and 
corners, gilt-stamped spine, top edge gilt. Minor extremity wear, some 
leaves roughly opened which in one case has caused the loss of a large piece 
of the outer margin on that particular leaf, but no loss of text. Binding 
remains tight, no hinge cracks.    $100.00
