      Summary of the history of this unique vessel, generally acknowledged 
to be the first steam-powered man-of-war. Fulton's "Steam Battery" was a 
double-hulled blockship constructed during the War of 1812, but not enough 
information had survived to reconstruct her until the discovery of plans of 
this vessel in the Danish Royal Archives at Copenhagen. This report 
summarizes the history of the vessel, describes the plans and the model 
built from them, and evaluates the design with particular focus on the

      The museum at the U. S. Naval Academy has one of the finest 
collections of British Admiralty ship models in the world, and these 
intricately detailed models are often the only extant sources of information 
about developments and refinements in shipbuilding over the centuries. Over 
100 models are pictured and described, including a number of the "bone 
models" made from beef bones by French prisoners during the Napoleonic Wars. 
Bound in brown cloth over boards with stamped spine and upper board
