YEARS' RESIDENCE IN THE GREAT DESERTS OF NORTH AMERICA (COMPLETE IN TWO 
VOLUMES).
London: longman, Green, Longman, and Roberts, 1860. First printing, Full 
cloth, Octavos, xxiv, 445; xii, 465 pages + ads, 58 plates plus fold-out 
colored map. Very good, ex library.
      Abbé Domenech first came to America in 1846, studying missionary 
requirements for two years at St. Louis before being posted to the new 
German settlement of Castroville in Texas. His work here is very descriptive 
of the geography and Native American inhabitants of the American Southwest. 
Also includes some account of the Great Salt Lake and the Mormons. Nicely 
illustrated with 58 woodcut plates by A. Joliet and a large fold-out map by 
P. Bineteau. Collated complete with all tissue-guards in place. HOWES #D410; 
SABIN #20554; GRAFF #1121; etc. This set has been rebound in dark green 
cloth with gilt spine titles. It is from a private institutional library and 
bears their stamp on each title page and catalogue number in white at heels 
of spines. Some occasional foxing inside. Map has a short tear at lower 
inner margin attachment....... $375.00
