First  Edition.  Five  quarto  (8-1/4" x  10-1/2")  volumes  bound  in
publisher's  pebble-grained  green  cloth with black  leather  spines.
Illustrated  with  252  full-page chromolithograph plates as  well  as
numerous   full-page  black-and-white  plates   and  text   engravings
illustrating   all  facets  of  life  in   the  Middle  Ages  and  the
Renaissance.  Text in French. Owner's red ink ownership notes on front
endpaper  and  half  title pages. Minor and  sporadic  foxing,  plates
generally  unaffected. Spines rubbed with wear at spine tips but quite
presentable  and  covers  tight.  Very Good set  of  this  scarce  and
beautifully illustrated edition                                $850.00
