One of 150 interesting items included in our HOLIDAY 2008 Catalogue now
posted on our web site. Included are beautifully bound classics, signed
books, fine press titles, poetry, illustrated books, and the unusual.
Next week we will post our new list which contains archives and scarce
material by three American writers: Thomas Merton, John Steinbeck, and
Thornton Wilder.
Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of the signing of one of the early
great African-American players in baseball, Hall-of-Famer Monte Irvin of
the San Francisco Giants. A few years ago I had the pleasure of sharing
a bench with Mr. Irvin on the main drag in Cooperstown, so that yes I
can now say that I sat on the bench with a Hall of Famer. Here's a book
signed by the man who led the way.
