angling: and of a small general library formed by the late Alfred 
Denison. Monday, the 17th of July, 1933. 31 pp., [8] leaves of 
plates; Sales code: Olymplus. 239 lots. Most prices and buyers noted 
in pencil; includes five books inscribed by Walton. One of the great 
angling collections

(2) Catalogue of the eminent collection of angling books, the 
property of J.C. Lynn, Esq. of Compton Down, Winchester. Tuesday, the 
20th October, 1959. 58 pp., 3 leaves of plates. Sale code: Angler. 
264 lots. Includes :The boke of St. Albans, 1496 (the White 
Knights-Ashburnham- Gilbey copy) and other rare early editions of The 
treatise of fysshynge with an angle; the first and other early 
editions of Walton's Compleat angler; John Dennys's Secrets of 
angling [1613], one of only three known copies; Samuel Gardiner's 
Booke of angling or fishing, 1606, one of four copies; William 
Gilbert's The anglers delight, 1676; Die Kunst wie man Visch, c.1530; 
the only recorded copy of the first edition of the Livret nouveau, 
the first book on fishing in French; Leonard Mascall's Booke of 
fishing with hooke and line, 1590; the ms. of Robert Noble's De arte 
piscatoria, c. 1669; Oppian's Halieutica, 1478; John Taverner's 
Certaine experiments concerning fish, 1600; Robert Venables' The 
experienced angler, 1662; and other rarities, many copies being of 
distinguished provenance from the libraries of Thomas Gosden, Thomas
