LOCKRIDGE, Ross Jr. RAINTREE COUNTY. Boston: Houghton Mifflin
Company 1948. First Edition. Author's first and only book, made into
a film starring Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift. The author
committed suicide at the age of 33 two months following publication
and had only one scheduled signing for the book. This copy, though
not signed, has laid in loosely a letter dated 13 June 1948 (three
months after the author's death) from the author's widow to a
reviewer thanking him for his review, explaining that none of the
copies of the books she has are autographed, and enclosing a clipped
example of her husband's SIGNATURE. The envelope hand-addressed to
the Indiana reviewer and marked "Personal" is also laid in. Fine in a
price-clipped, Fine dustwrapper. Lovely copy. $750.00
