Dante Aligheri. ...THE DIVINE COMEDY. A Line-For-Line Translation in the
Rime-Form of the Original by Melville Best Anderson. San Francisco: Printed by
John Henry Nash. 1929. Folio. 4 volumes. Each page of text within a printed green
ruled border. Edition limited to 250 numbered sets. Orig. gilt ruled, vellum
covered boards, some light soiling. Inscribed and signed by the translator,
Melville Best Anderson, dated 26 August 1929. College library bookplates on
front pastedowns, and a bit of foxing to some endpapers. $1,500.00 (trade
discount allowed)
The four volumes are "Inferno," "Purgatorio," "Paradiso." and a scholarly
work by the translator, Melville Best Anderson, "The Florence of Dante Aligheri".
It took John Henry Nash 6 years to complete the printing of this set and it
is a highlight of 20th century American printing.
