Greetings! We are pleased to offer the following new acquisition on a bit of seafaring and travel history, postpaid via media mail:

Coronet Memories: Log of Schooner-Yacht Coronet on Her Off-Shore Cruises from 1893 to 1899

By the Guests of Arthur Curtis James - Owner. F. Tennyson Neely, 1899. First Edition. Appears to be signed on ffep by George B. Spalding, who was a passenger on the trip around Cape Horn (from the Golden Gate to NY) in 1897 and who wrote the log on that trip that is included in the book. Other log entries include trips to the Hawaiian Islands and Japan, the West Indies, Newfoundland, and the St. Lawrence River. The 133-foot schooner Coronet, launched in 1885, earned fame as a trans-Atlantic race winner and circumnavigated the globe as one of the first U.S.-registered yachts to round Cape Horn. Coronet has survived as a link to a Golden Age in yachting history and is currently being restored in Newport, RI.

On the ffep: "From Geo. B. Spalding / See pages 214 - 315 / Spalding's Cape Horn Cruise." In the same hand, on p. 214: "By G. B. Spalding." Also: "Given to Boyce W_____ / 6/21/35 / G. B. S." and "E. E. Asbury." Initials “GBS” in pencil on ToC next to Spalding's entry.

Green cloth with metallic colored decoration, silver rope motif around the border. Cloth is worn at corners and edges and is blotchy overall. Stray ink mark on spine. Front hinge is starting. Frontis., map, and 28 B/W photos. $110
